Northwestern Mutual hosted a speaker series with Steve Forbes, chairman and editor in chief of Forbes Media and John Schlifske, Northwestern Mutual chairman and CEO. Forbes and Schlifske shared their perspectives on the economy, the markets, and how individuals and business owners must redefine the rules of financial security during times of market volatility. The event was part of a three day, six-city tour and saw over 3,500 attendees. The Los Angeles event, which took place at the Beverly Hills Hotel, had nearly 500 in attendance.

The Northwestern Mutual Foundation, the charitable arm of Northwestern Mutual, partnered with the National Council on Economic Education (NCEE) in developing TheMint.org, to emphasize personal financial literacy. First developed in 1997, the Web site now provides more tools to help parents as well as educators teach children about sound money management and establish good money habits at home.
Adults can test their financial awareness, by taking a Financial Checkup, using Northwestern Mutual's interactive financial awareness quiz.
