Hot 25 Awards The Waltos Group was proud to sponsor OC METRO Magazine's 2007 "Hot 25 Awards" held in October at Newport Lexus. This was the fourth year that The Waltos Group has sponsored this exciting event, which honors Orange County residents for their accomplishments in the business world and the community.
Specifically, this award recognizes people:
"Jack’s selfless commitment to those who are more unfortunate in our community illustrates the spirit behind this award," said Bob Waltos, managing partner of The Waltos Group. "“We are proud to know him and look forward to support his endeavors in the future." Jack was able to take his learnings from a 40-year consulting career and visualize how he could truly help our community. By looking at the root source of problemsinstead of just looking at the symptomshe was able to experience those "ah-ha" moments, which led to the establishment of visions for the three organizations in Orange County. The first one is El Viento. Together with his wife, Ellen Shockro, Jack has created a unique organization whose mission is to provide children and young adults with opportunities for success in life. El Viento provides the students of Oakview School the opportunity for two-year scholarships to Golden West College based on their ongoing participation in after-school programs starting in fourth grade. Jack also founded Healthy Smiles for Kids of Orange County, which seeks to provide improve the oral health of children throughout Orange County. He also established the Oak View Renewal Partnership. Jack and his team of supporters created this organization as a way to provide a healthy and safe environment for the kids of El Viento and of the Oak View community. ![]() Jack also has played significant supporting roles at Forum for Corporate Directors of Orange County, Children First Advisory Board, Activate America Partnership, Latino Education Attainment, Orange County United Way Leaders Society, and the Orange County Business Council. And true to Jack and one of the reasons he is receiving this award is his generosity of spirit. He credits his wife with much of the success of philanthropic ventures. He also is quick to point out the enduring support of the Boards of Directors at each organization who take responsibility for providing the resources to keep these programs growing. As Jack would say, "Without their leadership, there would be no award to Jack Shaw." For more information on the winner of the first Quiet Achievers award, Dale Dykema, click here. |
