Before joining the Northwestern Mutual Financial Network in 2005, Erik was a full-time student and a food server. He was looking for a career that would provide purpose and meaning and also provide him with a flexible schedule and an established career path to follow. Early in his career, Erik found the great challenges to be staying disciplined and doing what he needed to do on a consistent basis. Getting quality introductions and having older people accept him as a trusted representative and someone they could build a lasting relationship with were also early challenges. Erik finds the greatest rewards in his career are building not only business relationships but stronger personal relationships with family and close friends. Erik states, "We are here for our clients and we strive to provide the best service to them." He recounts one rewarding experience with a new client:
For those considering the career Erik offers, "Be prepared to work hard and be in it for the long haul." In addition to his role as a financial representative, Erik serves a College Unit Director for The Waltos Group leading a group of energized college interns. Away from the office, Erik enjoys being a part of his community and has membership at two area Chambers of Commerce. He also sits on a volunteer community board that organizes the annual 4th of July festivities in his community and boasts that it's the largest independence celebration west of the Mississippi River—a year-round project to achieve successfully.
